Setting a new PB and raising nearly £500 for the Macmillan Cancer Charity.
On Sunday 11th September 2016 Captain Heidi took all her training preparations and made the long journey up North to Newcastle to partake in the 36th Great North Run aiming to achieve a new personal best and to raise awareness and sponsorship for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.
Despite the initial drama of a broken watch strap and worrying about her husband Mark finding the bus transfer service to meet her at the finish line in South Shields, Heidi survived the hot and humid weather conditions, mass traffic of runners and tough long, slow uphill inclines to complete the race in 2:15:24 setting a new personal best time 8 minutes quicker than her last half marathon two years ago in Bath, 2014.
The support from her fellow Shipshape clients, work colleagues, friends and family had been simply amazing and helped her with her motivation and conquest to achieve this challenge. The Great North Run is the world’s largest half marathon with over 57,000 runners participating this year and Heidi came 19529th overall. More importantly Heidi has raised almost £500 (including gift aid) for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity with further awareness and funding opportunities hopefully being raised when HMS Shipshape hosts it’s second World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in the Praze institute 10am-12pm on Saturday 1st October 2016.
