On Saturday 1st October clients and staff of the HMS Shipshape exercise crew hosted its second annual Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning in the Praze institute. Not only did the weather hold fair, but so too did the community spirit with local people in the village of Praze an Beeble as well as members of the Praze Women’s Institute out in force either in attendance at the event or providing a fabulous array of home baked cakes. For just a small donation to the charity, members of the public enjoyed plentiful supplies of food and drink as well as being in with a chance of winning one of the many fabulous raffle prizes on offer. The event was so well supported that in just two hours an amazing total of £373.65 was raised, coupled with the event organiser Heidi Haden’s recent fundraising efforts in the Great North Run thus generating an incredible £942.15 overall for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
Speaking after the event, Heidi Haden the main event organiser and founder of the local HMS Shipshape exercise venture, commented on how amazing it was to see people coming together enjoying a cuppa and cake having a good old chat which had prompted her to organise the coffee morning for the second year running. She felt that it was really important to provide people in the local community with the opportunity to socialise and get together to help fundraise and support such an incredibly important and worthwhile cause and thus looked forward to hopefully running the event again next year.
