Thank you!

A huge thank you to everyone that supported our wellbeing event. It truly was a fantastic experience and opportunity for people across different areas of our local community to get together to socialise, participate and learn about exercise and the work of our three great charities in supporting our health and wellbeing. The event raised an incredible £485 with £161.66 each going to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, The Wave Project and Your Voice.
The plan moving forwards is to continue building momentum in the local community and raising awareness of various exercise activities, holistic approaches and supporting the work of other valuable charities that invest in mental health and wellbeing, so watch this space for future events!!

The Host

A dance fitness business at the heart of the local community, established since May 2015 and for the past seven years has been delivering dance fitness classes in both Praze an Beeble, near Camborne and Truro. Suitable for all fitness levels where the emphasis is on people making connections and exercise that is fun and friendly. A totally supportive, friendly, welcoming and non-judgemental environment that allows you to give of your own personal best to the joy of music. A fusion of traditional based aerobic exercises entwined with various dance movements to an eclectic mix of music from across the decades and styles to current chart-topping numbers. Definitely a workout like no other where we let loose, forget the challenges of the outside world for an hour, support one another in our local community, sing, dance, chant and get a right sweat fest on for improving both our physical and mental health.

A tip about caring for mental health:

“Life is like a box of chocolates. It can be very mixed and often challenging with highs and lows with societal pressures and global developments often impacting on how we feel and function. Always try to stay true to yourself and reach out if you need a little help finding your own personal centre. It’s always good to talk, share, seek advice/support and try activities that will hopefully enhance your social connections and improve your physical health and wellbeing”.

The Charities

All proceeds from ticket sales go to

The Wave Project

The Wave Project is a surf therapy charity founded in Cornwall, who harness the power of the ocean to improve the mental health of children and young people. Their surf therapy sessions focus on boosting confidence, making the ocean accessible to all and giving young people a sense of belonging. As well as the healing power of the ocean, what really changes lives is the caring support of the volunteer team, they provide 1:1 physical and emotional support at the beach and in the waves. After surf therapy young people report to feeling less anxious and happier about their lives!

A tip about caring for mental health:
Talk about your feelings to someone who will listen without judgment. People need validation of their feelings first before they can try to feel better.

And, when you’re feeling anxious, get outside and breathe! Big long, slow breaths in and out, only focus on your breath and your surroundings. This tricks your nervous system into believing that all is well and there is no danger.

Then you’re ready for a surf!

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity

RCHT Charity is the registered charity for Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske), West Cornwall Hospital, Marie Therese House and St Michael’s Hospital.

Patients are diagnosed and treated faster, families and loved ones are more comfortable, and staff travel out of county for specialised training – all through generous support given to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity.

Public support moves care at our hospitals beyond the basic provision of the NHS and, together, we can do more for our patients.

We are passionate about supporting the creation of a brilliant patient experience for everyone across our NHS Trust.  Thanks to kind and generous supporters we are able to fund equipment, facilities or additional training with our patients at the heart of everything we do.  RCHT Charity has recently funded grants to over 100 teams to help them cope through the Covid-19 pandemic – with additional equipment for staff rooms, furniture and other enhancements such as coffee machines.  We’ve also funded Bluetooth speakers to provide personalised music in bed spaces for patients on our dementia wards; a research nurse for the Oncology Research Team and a laser resectoscope, doubling the number of procedures performed each week.

Through generous support given to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, together, we can do more for our hospitals and patients.

A tip about caring for mental health:

RCHT Charity Community Fundraiser Lynne Lees said ‘for my personal mental health and wellbeing I recommend not dwelling too much on yourself.  Shift the focus to the great outdoors, some fresh air, in whatever guise, can bring an alternative perspective and life can feel much calmer and under control!’.

Your Voice Cornwall

Your Voice was launched in the Spring of 2019 after Tash recognised the huge gap between women affected by poor Mental Health, and the services available to support them here in Cornwall.

We are determined to make changes in the way that people are supported and are passionate about the services we offer.

One of the services we offer is peer support groups for women.

The support groups enable women to meet up, in various locations around Cornwall, and enjoy time with other women who are experiencing poor Mental Health or feelings of isolation.

The groups offer a very informal, relaxed and confidential environment, with refreshments provided and an opportunity to discuss the individuals issues as well as listen. Nobody is obliged to talk. Many members prefer to just listen at first.

We also offer social events to encourage wellbeing and social skills, and help combat isolation. These include sea-swimming sessions with an established, local group. Also, Zumba groups, creative workshops, and other social events.

Personal tip to managing mental health and wellbeing:

“We can’t promise to fix all of your problems, but we promise to do our best to make sure you don’t face them alone”

Yoga Tully

I offer classes, workshops and pre-recorded content that intertwines traditional yoga postures with mobility and strength work. I describe my style as yoga-ish.

We will focus on tuning into the body, moving with intention and building strength and mobility for functional moments.

Personal tip to managing mental health and wellbeing:

“Rest whenever you can. We can get sucked into thinking that rest is only deserved once everything else is done. But if we look at rest differently, perhaps we call it recentering or relaxing we can begin to see rest in much broader sense – far from this idea of just ‘doing nothing’. Check in with those things you find truly restful as often as you can “
